Snowflakes & Scraping Mats

What is she talking about? Snowflakes and scraping mats? Whaaaaa?

This past weekend, it snowed for the first time this year. Wait, no! It snowed for the last time this year. Anyways, I went over to the house to do some work before the snow started. I removed some wallpaper from the kitchen and I decided to toss the old kitchen mats that were in there from the first owner. A simple enough task, you say? Alas, that was not the case! Those babies were stuck. And I mean Krazy Glue stuck! You know, like the dude in the 80’s commercial that hung from a skyscraper beam by his hard hat, stuck! (If you are under 30 and have no idea what I am talking about, see the commercial here. That guy had both dedication and commitment. But I digress…

Moving on, I also have dedication and commitment, as well as a burning desire to to banish those rugs from my kitchen forever! I tried soaking a rug in cleaning solution: nothing. Then I tried fabric softener on the other: nope. Last ditch effort I tried vinegar: nada. In the end, I tried again by just plain pulling one them. It must have been super funny though, good thing no one could see me – I had one leg propped against the cabinets for leverage all the while cursing at inanimate objects (like apartment stoves). But I pulled and I pulled aaaand ziltch. No results, no payoff at all – those suckers didn’t budge.  Nothing was working and I was dangerously close to starting the New Year off with a hernia. In the end, I found yet another use for those American Line 4″ Adjustable Scrapers! I think those poor rugs were there longer than I have been alive. They sure did not want to go. But, after a whole lotta elbow grease I got them removed and into the trash bin!

Take a look-see at this horror:

The pistachio stuff is painted over paper from the walls, this is one of the two the stuck rugs.

These scrapers sure are coming in handy!

And this residue is still on the floor 😦

Here are some random photos of the house in the snow, I don’t think I put any up yet of the outside. Happy New Year!!!!

Even trash cans look good with a little snow :)

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! (and let some one else come shovel for me)

That little fence is a goner come spring, but it does look pretty in the snow :)
