I am attempting to clone some tomato plants using Eddie’s tips. I didn’t have any rooting gel or powder on hand but I already had the cuttings heading for the trash, so I just kinda went for it. If it works, I will give them away as my garden is full. I just had to try this out rather than toss the cuttings. Next time I will be prepared – fingers crossed these take!

Losing Screws 
The great thing about tomato plants is that they don’t need the rooting gel to get started. Removing the bottom stems and planting it in moist soil will create a new plant within two weeks. I found this out last year when overnight strong wind broke one of the branches.
I’d also read that some gardeners strip the bottom stems of seedlings and plant them deeper to increase the root system/stability of the plant, which I have taken to doing as well.
I’ve noticed this doesn’t work with other plants I grow however – pity.

I remember my mum always taking cuttings and sharing plants with family/friends. Seems to have gone out of fashion. But a great way of saving money!
